Brilliant little TV

Review Date: December 6, 2009
Reviewer: Arun,
This is a lovely TV, LG have really done a great job. It looks stylish and neatly laid out. Even the light to indicate if the TV is ON or in Standby is nicely done - it is actually a small chrome insert that reflects the light from an LED placed within the TV and this is a lot less distracting than the one in another TV I have seen that goes straight in your eyes.

We sit at least 7 or 8 feet from the screen and the picture is quite good and even standard definition channels look great (I'm not sure how HD can beat it, but will try sometime). Since it is a small television with 720p resolution, the pixels are quite close to each other, and it produces a good picture even if you sit around the 7 feet mark. The colours are nice as well, it seemed different to ones on an old CRT TV but then I found a setting for Colour Temperature that, when set to Warm, seems to make it close to the colour on the CRT TV. There are a good number of options to adjust the picture and most people should get a good picture. I actually like it on the stock settings.

It works well as a screen for a computer and automatically adjusted to the resolution of the computer that was at 1024x768. When I changed the resolution of the desktop to 1360x768, it was slightly mismatched but when I changed the resolution in the TV menu to match it all was fine. (On a side note, if you are going to use it as a computer monitor, get a good cable if you plan to read from the screen, even the cheap Belkin ones produce ghosting and are only acceptable for video, the good cables are going to be about £10-15 but it will be worth it)

Sound on this TV is quite good. I mainly watch shows with talking being the predominant part of it. Most of the sound is in the higher frequency ranges so this TV, with its small speakers, works well. There are lots of options to tweak settings and others have managed to get a sound they like. I have not tried action movies yet, but this TV does not have much Bass so it will need external speakers to get the best effect. Music also lacks Bass but we don't really use the TV for that. The TV is very good for shows with talking, everything is clear and the Clear-Voice setting makes it even clearer.

The graphics used for the on-screen display is very nice and better than other sets I have seen before. They have put some attention into it.

The remote is nice, pretty well laid out and the important buttons are easy to see. A few of them could be better (maybe just personal preference) but are still easy enough to use.

The Energy-saving mode is a very good idea and you can switch off the screen when you are listening to audio to save power. But I wish the power button on the top of the TV was a normal ON/OFF one, this one just puts it into Standby - which is not very energy-efficient but probably enjoyed by lazy-bones that like using remote controls only.

Someone complained that their set does not keep the new settings they put for more than a few minutes (not sure if it is this TV or the 22 inch version, I could not find that review again). That is not really a problem, it is just that the TV has somehow been put into a 'Store-Demo' mode that lets shoppers mess around with the settings and after some time returns it to factory default settings. It can easily be changed to 'Home' mode that works fine.

The USB port at the back is only for servicing.

The TV takes about 5 seconds to start up, like others have said. Its not too long to wait though. It does go back to the last channel you watched too.

It is very simple to set up this TV, all you need is the quick start guide to get it running. The on-screen instructions are good too. No problems there.

It is a very nice TV and a surprise that it is available at this price. You probably wont be disappointed with this set, you will probably enjoy it actually. I love it.

We got it from Amazon and the service was fantastic, it came in less than 48 hours - much earlier than scheduled. Two thumbs up for Amazon.
Lovely Gadget!

Bought this after quite a bit of research to replace a very old Sony TV for the bedroom. We weren't sure that the digital signal in our area would be OK but there is an analogue receiver in the TV anyway. However, plugged it in, and in seconds it came on with the automatic tuner instructions on screen. Followed the very easy on screen instructions and after about 5 minutes it was all up and running perfectly with all the digital TV and radio channels available in our area. Completely impressed - sleep function which is fab, easy to use remote, excellent picture from all angles unlike some LCD screens and the screen can tilt as well. Good sound too. Slight gripe that you have to read the full manual on a PC as it is on a CD but it was so easy to set up we just looked at the detailed manual later. Highly recommend this great little TV.
Idiot proof!

Reviewer: Mrs,
This TV was so easy to set up and the picture is excellent. I read the two reviews and decided that the overall quality and price were good - I am not disappointed at all. Only two tiny negatives - one of the reasons why I bought it was for the tilt facility which doesn't seem to exist on the TV stand - maybe it only works when it's wall-mounted. Also, one review said that it takes a long time to come on, which is true - however it always returns to the channel I left it on.

All in all, I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a neat TV with excellent picture and sound quality at a great price.
A Good Little Television

Came in a much smaller box than I thought it would, but in these packaging-conscious days, that's no bad thing. Very easy to get started, you just plug it in and start the self-tuning function. Picked up all the digital channels without the need for a roof top aerial, nor an expensive set-top digital aerial; I just used an old one off my previous CRT style TV. Colour is bright and vivid, and is easily adjustable. Only small gripe is the slightly tinny sound quality. The sound can be altered via the menu, but for me at least, it's not as great as some other sets. But as this is just for the bedroom and I won't be watching it for very long each day, it's fine. That aside, I'm very pleased with this purchase. It certainly compares to the more expensive 19" sets available

I bought this TV to go in the kitchen to replace an older analogue LCD TV
The picture quality is superb on digital and satellite feed and the set up and other menus are simple and easy to use. The audio is a little bit tinny, but this is understandable with small speakers.(Just maximise the base and reduce the treble for the best sound). I am delighted with this purchase and it represents great value for money.

Having purchased a 42" widescreen TV of the LG ilk, I decided to buy the smaller version to be used in the kitchen. After I had ordered it I read the comments of others and realised there was a problem with the sound being 'tinny'.
When I received it and plugged it in, I too heard it was 'tinny'. However there are lots of settings in the sound menu, one of which is 'clear voice' and if you deselect this option the sound is much better. I am very pleased with both of the televisions I have bought, and the prices were very competitive.
great buy

Install the LG 19LH2000 in our bedroom today together with a SLX Gold digiTop Amplified High Performance Indoor Aerial for TV also purchased through Amazon.

I can't believe the picture and sound quality I got from these items. Set up was a breeze but I suggest you have the aerial as far away from the TV as possible. I would also advise you scan for the channels more than once, I kept getting more and more available channels every time I went through the scanning process. You will not be at all dissapointed when you get this home and installed. My wife is thrilled with this new setup,(I'll be in her good books for a long time) it's nearly as good as our main set in the living room which is connected to a cable subscription.

The only gripe I have is the manual comes on a CD which is unhelpful when the computer and the TV are not in the same place.

I have no hesitations in recommending this product together with the aerial I've mentioned. I thought this 19inch model was exceptional value and of high quality.

A REALLY GOOD BUY

I bought this LG tv for my kitchen as it was on a special offer. It is really smart, sleek and has an amazing picture for a cheaper tv. Tuned in automatically, so up and running in seconds. Really pleased with it.
