Great TV. Buy with confidence.

I bought this TV to replace a Samsung LE32R88BD. Overall, it is a fantastic TV. I thought it would be useful to address some of the negative comments regarding this model that I came across when I was researching the various TVs within my budget.

Faulty components - One reviewer stated that the LCD panel developed a fault after 20 months. This particular model comes with a free 3-year guarantee from Sony. It is possible to get a 5-year guarantee from several high street stores at the time of writing.

Picture colour - Several reviewers complained that the picture colour was unnatural. All the settings can be changed and you can use a calibration DVD to set the TV to D65 imaging standard. In addition, the TV also boasts several "scene" settings including cinema, sports, photo, music, game, graphics, general, and auto.

LCD clouding - Several reviewers have complained of LCD clouding. I am happy to say that I have not noticed any clouding on my TV. However, even if this fault were to develop, it would be covered by the guarantee.

100Hz Motionflow - This TV does not have a 100Hz Motionflow feature. I deliberated for a long time whether to purchase the KDL32V5500 or the KDL32W5500 which does have Motionflow. However, on a 32 inch TV, you really cannot tell the difference between 50Hz and 100Hz. The KDL32V5500 handles fast-moving objects very well and I have not noticed any artefacts. If you were considering a bigger TV (over 40 inches) it might be worth going for a 100Hz model.

SD quality - Several reviewers commented that the quality of SD pictures is poor. Perhaps this depends on the quality of your TV reception, but I am perfectly happy with the quality of SD pictures via freeview. In fact, the quality is marginally better than my old Samsung.

Input lag - This was probably one of my biggest concerns about this particular model. I have played several FPS games on this TV including MW2, Killzone 2, and Operation Flashpoint 2. I have not noticed any input lag whatsoever. Generally, the PS3 looks superb on this TV.

Slow menus - Some reviewers have complained about slow menus across the Bravia range. If you have this problem I suggest you change the batteries in the remote control. The ones that ship with the TV are useless! If that doesn't solve the problem, try installing the latest firmware. The menu on my TV is just as responsive as the XMB on my PS3. The EPG is also very impressive (once you have turned the Guide+ off!).

Hope that is helpful and clears up some of the issues that confused me when I was looking to buy. Who'd have thought buying a TV could be so complicated!
Great all round TV

I bought this to replace my 3 year old non-HD Sony 23 inch LCD TV. The clarity of the picture is superb - colours balanced with no motion blurring that I have noticed. Watching the "Sarah Connor Chronicles" on Virgin 1 via Freeview, the picture is touching the cinematic with the light and hues well reproduced. Seeing "Revenge of the Sith" on DVD was like watching a new movie again. I could see the intricate patterns and textures on characters' clothing, and the opening battle is given full justice. All this without even trying HD sources (which I do not yet own). This is a huge improvement on my old Sony which suffered from blurring when showing fast moving objects.

The set is future proof (for now) with all the connections you need, including a PC input and new networking standard for devices, called DLNA . Though there is a USB socket for showing your photos and video on the TV, only Sony cameras and camcorders are compatible, so I can't hook up my iPod or a USB memory device (except Sony Microvault).

Other features include a low energy mode, extensive ways to adjust the picture and sound, a swivel stand, a Top-Up TV slot and a photo frame function. The on-screen menu is the best I have seen and easy to use.

Personally, the styling is disappointing by Sony standards and it looks very different in real life from the photos. Overall the design is low key rather than striking. The remote control, considering this is a mid-range model, is light and flimsy. As the case with flat screen TVs, the sound is generally only acceptable.

Overall, this is an excellent Sony TV with the latest Sony Bravia 3 engine.

Brilliant

Got this TV first class delivered, brilliant service by amazon. Thought I would wait a little longer and spend the extra money on this TV, due to the Bravia Engine 3 technology, and i can say it was definately worth it. I have a ps3 connect via HDMI and they both work great together, TV has same GUI as ps3 and picture quality is sublime! I was going to buy a samsung but im glad i bought this, It has a great finish and slim compared to other full hd tv's..totally recommended!
Great TV

This tv is a truly magnificent piece of equipment.

The picture is crisp even on lower resolution inputs such as the integrated freeview.

When playing through a HD input with a 5.1 surround sound system it gets even better. A whole new experience.

The new range of bravia are a lot more sleek than previous versions, looking great with the shiny but contemporary finished effect. The only downside that it attracts the dust, but reminds you to keep your product well maintained.

The Screen quality is great with none of this shiny screen nonsense to make it look quality i.e Samsung, the colour is just sublime.

Top end product that will not dissapoint, but at a top end price.
The price is the only downfall to me on this product.
I'm impressed!

I don't want to think about how many hours I spent browsing different sites and reading reviews prior to purchasing this Sony TV. I was looking for a Full HD TV with low-energy mode, plenty of connection options, a USB input and networking via DLNA, this model ticked all the boxes. The 3 year warranty and the price were also deciding factors.

In a nutshell I'm impressed....I'm very impressed.

Set up was easy, after attaching the screen to the stand, connecting my other audio/video equipment I started the TV and although a comprehensive user guide was included, following the on screen instructions was easy enough.

The Guideplus+ data download was the longest part of the setup and to be honest I've since turned it off as I prefer the normal guide.

On initial installation I wasn't particularly impressed with the picture quality or the sound but after adjustment there's no blockiness or ghosting and sound's good too. The settings and options are all easily accessible via the XMB menu which is itself a great feature and really easy to use.

The USB port can be used for photo's, music and limited video (MPEG was the only format I could get to work) and both my SanDisk and Kingston Flash Drives were recognised and worked fine.

The USB can also be used to update the firmware (downloads available via the Sony Website) and the process is easy to carry out.

DLNA - Having a lot of videos and music on my PC this was one of the main features I was after and having read varying reports about it I wasn't sure how well it was going to work. I had absolutely no problems setting it up. After attaching a Network Cable between the TV and my router it straight away picked up Windows Media Player 12 on my PC (Windows 7) and also the NAS Media Hub that is connected to my router. Shared files on both are easily selectable via the XMB menu and I've had no problems playing MP3 music files or MPEG/DivX/WMV video files, the quality isn't brilliant down to transcoding but it's certainly very watchable.

In summary it was easy to set up, after a few minor adjustments to the settings it looks good, sounds good and so far appears to have all the connections and functions I could possibly wish for. I'm more than pleased.

UPDATE: TWO MONTHS ON
Now I've got used to my Bravia and stopped messing about with the settings and no longer need to refer to the handbook I'd just like to say I'm still impressed. Familiarity has not led to me finding any faults or wishing I'd bought a different brand or model. A very satisfied customer.

I am very pleased with my Sony Bravia TV. It's the 2nd. one I have bought and it's perfect. The colours are excellent and the HD connection makes it seem as if you are in the same room as the stars. I had my first set about 5 years ago and it hasn't worn out. I gave it to my daughter and bought a new one. I think it has the best picture. I rate it9 out of 10.

I am no techy so will attempt no high level comparisons at a technical level.
This is just a superb TV that does everything I wanted and expected the Sony badge to supply. So easy to use and set up, and coordinates with my Bravia HDD recorder.
Probably has more features than I really needed but hey...what holds a lot holds a little!
Great product, crammed with all the features you will need to enjoy your TV watching experience for many years to come.
Staggering Sony!!!!!

I have my Sony for just over a week and I have to say that my expectations which were already high, have been surpassed.Initial set up a complete doddle, just push a button and let the TV get on with it.
Picture quality on Freeview is very good,on upscaled DVD the picture is excellent but with Blu Ray,the picture is simply staggering.
I am awaiting a Sky HD Box but the picture quality with plain boring Sky is excellent.
Connectivity is more than you could ask for,the set looks good and there is a free Sony 3 year guarantee.
I did a lot of research before I decided on this model and so far,I have not regretted it.The only downside is that the sound is a little weedy but no worse that some other sets I have previewed. As a temporary measure while I sort out a surround sound set up,I am using some Logitech speakers via the headphone socket, much better!!
All in all,a top notch product, well equipped with a stunning HD picture. It seems to be well priced so if you are tempted, just do it!!!

Can't fault this product - it has revolutionised our viewing. The picture is sharp and the colours very natural, especially in HD. Would recommend this to anyone thinking of changing to a flat screen TV and wanting HD.
Very Satisfied

We've had this set about a month now and are very pleased with it. Setting it up was done in about 20 minutes. The picture quality is excellent.
We bought a signal booster for about £14 locally as our ITV and Channel 4
digital signals through our aerial were a little low, and that saved us changing to a digital aerial.
The sound quality is much better than our old TV.
We need to dust the "piano black" casing more often because otherwise it shows the dust; we use anti-static wipes which you would use for PC monitors.

Fast delivery by Amazon. TV easily set up and providing excellent quality after adjusting factory settings, even when compared with main Sony KDL40X2000. The four HDMI sockets are a very useful feature. The Sony was a replacement for a Samsung 32", which was returned the next day having proved faulty. (A yellow vertical line, which is not uncommon apparently.)
