Excellent TV

Review Date: June 2, 2009

Considered buying a Sony Bravia or a Panasonic Viera as they generally get the best reviews but they were a little more than I wanted to pay. I also wanted a 5 year guarantee so bought the Toshiba from John Lewis Online.
I've had it for a couple weeks now and I'm very pleased with it. The picture quality is very good particularly the colour rendition and the clarity. It's a new 2009 model coming out in April and it has features on it like Resolution+ , Metabrain (whatever that is) and Activision II that were previously only on higher spec models - this is the budget model in the 2009 range. The resolution is 1366x768 not the full HD 1920x1080 but from the reports I've read the difference is not noticeable on TVs 32" and below, so why pay the extra for full HD? There is a full HD version, RV635 series that costs an extra £100.
Set up was very easy, the menus are straightforward with loads of options to customise the picture settings and the sound quality from the inbuilt speakers is good. There are 4 pictures modes that you can set up 'Auto', 'Dynamic', 'Standard' and 'Movie' which you can easily toggle through to find the best picture to suite what you are watching. Overall an excellent TV at a very good price.
Very pleased

Everything about this TV is great. The instructions re set up were easy to follow and I had the TV working within ten minutes of opening the box. The handset is easy to work and the overall picture is superb. Indeed my son in law reckons the picture quality is better than his Samsung model which cost £100 more. I like the look of the set. It stands well. I also bought a TVonics digital video box to go with the TV.The two go well together and I can happily record up to 220 hours of programmes.
Very pleased with the Amazon delivery service. I ordered the TV on a Sunday evening and received it (as promised)on Wednesday lunchtime. As had opted for free delivery I was delighted with the quick delivery.
Amazed!

My Toshiba 32AV635DB arrived yesterday, and wow! I really was amazed at how good the picture was! The picture is just so sharp, it actually looks like everything is HD When your sat a reasonable distance away. I sit about 8 feet from it (When im in bed) and the picture, as one of the other reviewers said, really jumps out at you!

The interface is really easy to use, although i had to play with the settings for an hour or so before I was happy. I have a Toshiba DVD recorder with Freeview and the guide was painfully slow! The EPG is always up-to-date and really easy to look through. The sounds is actually pretty good too. I have the bass quite high, which I think makes quite a lot of difference
I primarily use the TV for my PS3 and I was amazed at the quality! With it not being 1080p, I don't think it makes much difference although I'm a bit confused because my PS3 recognises it as 1080p
I Have a Sony 40W4500 in my lounge, and actually the quality of Freeview on this Toshiba is better then my Sony!

I was a little put off by the price of This Toshiba at the beginning (Because you normally get what you pay for), But honestly i strongly recommend buying this TV! It is such good value, and i love how the Toshiba logo glows like the Sony.
My only withdrawal is the fact that the remote control looks a bit cheap (Like a Hotel Remote) But this isn't a major issue as it's well laid out and functional.

I was first considering the Toshiba 32AV615DB, but for £10 more you get so much more features, function and better quality TV! I really do recommend buying this TV!
Superb! Better than the Bravia and Samsung models!

I did a lot of research and did a lot of viewing comarisons before I decided on the Tosh. I compared it (picture quality) with equivalent Sony Bravia and Samsung models. The Toshiba won hands down! 2 scarts and plenty of HDMI's also.
I am very critical when it comes to motion blur, especially during live sport and the Toshiba NO MOTION BLUR! (it was very noticable on the Sony and Samsung models). Fantastic buy!
One Word - AMAZING!

To all concerned with buying a 32" HD tv with Freeview, this tv is literally amazing, for the money i wasnt expecting it to jump out at me the way it did, i bought it with a HDMI cable so i could play my PS3 with it and the sharpness of the picture running with game mode is fabulous!

Watching blu-ray movies is quality aswell, plus the sound levels of the speakers is impressive for their size!

It was bigger than i expected also but the bigger the better, easy to tune freeview and the tv guide is always up to date!

Defo 100% worth it for the money, im buying another one for my girlfriend for her birthday ;)

Great TV

I have had this TV for about a month now, the picture quality is great, Sound is good. Their are plenty of points to add your extra equiptment like sky, dvd, freeview ect. Built in freeview is ok but I do find that it needs a med to strong signal as do most HD ready tv's. As well as the 7 day EPG, this Freeview tells you what is about to start or has just started on the other channels when you change channel, nice little feature. Very easy to setup and use. I haven't actually had to use the manual at all in the past month. I would buy this tv again or recommend it to you.
First Toshiba for me and love it!

I was looking for a new TV and read the reviews, looked in the shops and bamboozled myself. By the way I have been a video producer for nearly 40 years and have been responsible for buying lots of pro equipment over the years: but some of this consumer claptrap doesn't make a lot of sense in real terms. I have confidence in the major Japanese video manufacturers such as Sony and Panasonic and was looking at their product range. I was on the verge of buying a Panasonic when I saw this model. Toshiba don't do professional kit so I was slightly hesitant but their consumer kit seems to get good reports and my laptop seems fine, so I took a punt. The price was good as was the spec. At present I don't have an HD source and I was attracted by reports of the quality of the upscaling technology that enhances a SD picture significantly. To be honest I didn't go out of my way to look at it in a shop but bought it sight unseen. Since I got it I have looked at other sets in shops and the Toshiba looks better than most, even more expensive sets.

One of the first programmes I saw featured helicopter shots in the Canadian Rockies on SD. I was hugely impressed with the detail and quality. Sound is good although adjusting the advanced sound controls seems to make little difference through the internal speakers. I don't do surround sound so can't comment on that. I am very happy with the sound through the internal speakers when watching TV. (I don't do games either). I like the autoview feature which adjusts picture luminance according to ambient lighting, as well as content on the screen. So when the sun comes out and illuminates the room I don't have to adjust the picture.

The manual is basic and suggests you go online for the full manual 'to save trees'. I don't like that and think it is a cost cutting measure, as we will all use energy to go online as well as paper downloading the manual. A set with these features should come with a manual. However I haven't felt the need to go online as it seems quite self-expalanatory to me. This model has a manual on/off switch so you can save money and the planet by turning it off at night. However this switch is located on the rear panel at the left hand side and is not marked in any way, so it took some finding! (and I thought I had a lot of experience with video kit!!)

Apart from these gripes I am very satisfied, now all we need are some decent programmes to watch!
BEST EVER

This is a great TV, the picture is stunning. One of my very first reviews was of a philips CRT which I rate as the best CRT I have seen. That must be 10 years old now but still remains to this day very very good. In general CRT TVs despite being ancient have advantages over LCDs. Namely, much better viewing angles and alot better contrast with pure blacks.

However this TV is far superior in my eyes. Firstly it looks good! I have just moved and didnt want a giant ugly 10 ton CRT in a newish flat. I dont think it would even go through the door...The picture on this Toshiba, as you would expect with a quality LCD is pin sharp, far superior to the aformentioned CRT. My dad has a newish larger Bravia TV and he thought mine was HD just through SD!! The SD picture is quite a bit better than the SD on the bravia and that cost 5 times the price so thats sayign something, although the bravia is a much larger TV.. Anyway the viewing angles are very good (nowhere near a CRT but what LCD is) and even if your room is suddenly lit up with sunlight, the TV will adjust accordingly thanks to the autoview feature on the TV. No need to mess about with the settings. The TV is far from ugly looking, it looks just like any modern TV. The logo being illuminated looks nice as well.

Downsides? The default settings are a bit dull, I would switch to dynamic (and manually tone it down if you find it too bright/saturated) but its personal preference. Even then the contrast isnt brilliant during really dark scenes despite this TVs excellent colour reproduction. The CRT is superior when it comes to detail in the dark scenes. Resolution+ doesnt seem to make any difference whatsoever when turned off..I have no idea why or why anyone would even want to turn it off but I don't see any difference? Maybe it's just always on as the picture looks close to HD quality in standard definition anyway (on certain channels, namely bbc, itv and channel 4). The sound through the speakers isn't brilliant but is good enough. Don't expect much bass though, it's very weak even when cranked up.

Overall I love the TV, the picture is superb, the sound is more than adequate and would definitely reccomend for anyone looking for a new feature packed LCD at a budget price. I dont think you will be able to find a new TV thats better value for money.
