The first thing I notice is the improved design. I was slighty put off but the design of the 555xv series, with the speakers looking like a bit of an add on. They've added a fading grey line, which adds a bit of class to the tv. (see badly taken attached photo!)
Very easy to set up, so easy my technologically inept wife could attach the stand and tune in the freeview channels! This model has resolution +, which after seeing what upscaling freeview and dvd boxes do, I was quite sketical about. It "allows your LCD TV to display standard definition images at near high definition" according to the Toshiba website. Well, put it this way, I'm not planning to get sky HD anymore!
The blacks are very good and autoview is a nice addition so that you don't have to change the contrast etc if watching a dark movie late in the evening. The main reason that I went for the 37 not the 32 was Dolby® Digital Plus. I have 7.1 with a specialist decoder to create a home cinema experience. I tested the sound coming directly from the sky box verses from via the tv and was impressed on the extra surround sound generated. Can't wait to watch my new THX versions of Star Wars to hear what it does.
I'm slighty disapointed in the small size of manual, although you can download a in-depth version. Also, that no cables/adapters are included, but that's just the way things go. It's good that you can turn off the glowing "Toshiba" sign on the bottom of the tv, and nice that you have a full-power-down button to save those penny's.
The menu system is straight-forward, hiding the advanced options unless you want to adjust them. I also like the way that when you - for example - adjust the contrast, the main menu screen reduces to the bottom corner, so that you can see how the whole picture changes with each degree of adjustment.
Overall very impressed for the amount of money spent and would recommend to anyone wanting to get a tv in this price range. |
Well worth your cash!

Wow is my first word for this review, I got to say that I was slightly unsure if I had made the right choice on this TV as I have been a Samsung fan for many years (well.. 6yrs to be exact!)
When I got this TV today (thats 1 day after ordering) I was amazed at how light and lovely it looked.
I managed to work out the stand and then got it set-up and tuned in, This took around 10mins total time and was easy.
First thing I noticed was the picture on the Freeview, its alot better than my 32' Samsung HD Ready TV that I have had for just under 2years now. The picture seems crisper and brighter than I have had to deal with before.
Then I clicked the guide button, some of you may not think this is a feature worth writing about but I have to disagree that some inbuilt Freeview guides are rubbish. This TV has a awesome guide that takes up all the screen and shows you on a proper timeline when and what is on.
Once I booted up my PS3 and changed the setting from 1080i to 1080p I was amazed at how crisp the text looked, Then I watched the opening scene from The Dark Knight and was in love with the clear picture.
I have only had the TV a day but already all my fears have been put to one side, its a great TV and for this price I would recommend it! |

| This televison is an absoulute steal, the picture qaulity is brilliant and so is the sound quality. The resoulution + (plus) seem's to work wonder's on standard picture quality, it is literally as good as H.D quality. I would highly recomend this television to anybody who want's an expert quality t.v at a Knock down price. So go on go and grab yourself a deal I tell u now that you won't be disapointed. So many pro's and absoulutly no con's! |

| A great buy for the money. Good picture on HD and it upscales SD well. Easy to set up and lots of tweaks to get it right; the online manual is very helpful to sort these aspects out. The sound is better than i expected given other reviews that were less than positive on this point. A very good product |

I'm just an ordinary viewer with no great amount of high-tech knowledge or expectations, but I can still recognise the combination of a damn good picture and a damn good price when it's put in front of me.
Nearly all of this model's numerous excellent features have already been accurately discussed in previous reviews. In fact it was these early reviews that convinced me to buy. After several weeks of ownership, all I can add now is my own five stars' worth. |
Does what it says on the box!

| I agree with all the good comments from the other reviews. I've had this TV for a few weeks now, easy to set up, picture quality is excellent, the sound also plays better through my 6.1 surround system than previous Toshiba 32" TV. Very good all round and price is good too. |

Well I've been hunting for a new flat screen to replace my old Panasonic 28" CRT for about six months. Looked at Pioneer LCD's and Panasonic plasmas, but in the end I could not justify spending that kind of money. After doing more research and sneaking around Curry's etc, I decided on the 37" Toshiba Regza RV635. Firstly the price was great at £449, secondly the delivery was next day, thirdly the TV was an absolute doddle to set up, fourthly the picture quality was amazing for this price point. Blue ray dvd's look how they should, and there is very little juddering with massive cgi heavy back drops. Plenty of detail and crisp vibrant colours. My xbox 360 games (even though the xbox outputs at 720) just look great - on the back of this i revisited call of duty for another tour, fantastic! Other good things are the easily tweakable tv options and the nice TV guide which is very clear and easy to navigate. The set also looks very nice and although others have complained about the Toshiba lighting up on the bottom of the panel, I have not found that this distracts me from the picture.
Thanks to Amazon for good service, and if you are looking for a reasonably priced TV I would not hesitate to recommend this Tosh. |

I bought my Toshiba Rezga 1080p 37RV635DB to replace my 24 inch Sony CRT-plus-digibox TV. Firstly, the Toshiba weighs half as much as the CRT TV. Secondly, what a tremendous improvement in the quality and resolution in the LCD picture, more than the difference between normal and HD TV I fancy. Secondly, almost every aspect of the Toshiba I found excellent or helpful, such as the on- screen programme guide. Thirdly, I live in a fairly low-signal area: the Toshiba digital channels receiver is substantially more sensitive than my two digiboxes.
There are three normal main input facilities, plus four HDMI inputs, plus USB j-peg viewer, plus D-type three row 15 pin PC input socket. Normal inputs 1 & 2 are scart, where input 2 can be switched to an `S' video 4 pin input plus 2 phono stereo sound sockets. Input 3 consists of 5 phono sockets, 3 for component video plus 2 for sound input. A CAM module slot, an Optical Digital Audio Output socket, 3.5mm headphone output socket, audio from PC socket, complete the external connections. I have tried all outputs except HDMI, and they all work, including PC and camcorder inputs.
Of course, on the ATV analogue TV channels, it is possible to tune the TV to VCR, DVD and other recorders which add their output (usually on or around Channel 32), looped through on their B&L aerial plug and sockets. What shall we do when TVs no longer provide ATV receivers?
TV sound quality through its inbuilt speakers was reasonable, but I normally take the headphone output and pass it through my HI-FI system. This is fine, but plugging in to the TV headphone socket cuts out the built-in speakers, and there is no other facility for by-passing this (except for the optical digital audio output, which remains always active). For those who are reasonably handy with a soldering iron, this can readily be overcome (at your own risk!) by taking off the back cover, swinging out the printed circuit board containing the 3.5mm headphone socket, and soldering three wires to the three pins located in a triangle underneath the headphone socket. Leave the other cluster of pins alone. Take these three wires to a separate 3.5mm stereo socket, and this provides audio output while leaving the TV speakers in circuit. The TV allows volume for both internal and external connections to be set independently. For those with older camcorders, the S input provides a surprisingly good direct video picture input.
Altogether an excellent TV at a competitive priceworthy of five stars.

Been using this TV for four weeks now, and it suits my requirement exactly. Plenty of capability for adjusting image depending on source, and easy intuitive set up.
However - I do not use this TV to watch television programmes! I can't say what digital broadcasts look like on it, but I've no reason to believe there would be an issue with this. I use the TV only to play Blu-Ray and DVD films and shows, and for Wii and Xbox 360 gaming. Image clarity with Blu-Ray discs and upscaled DVD's is excellent, sharp, clear picture with remarkable 'depth of field'. The Nintendo Wii looks ok, but I only have this connected via an A/V cable, the Xbox though, via composite digital connection looks superb.
I have read that some users found the sound reproduction a little tinny perhaps. I agree up to a point, but part of the enjoyment for me in watching films etc; is the sound reproduction, and I use an Onkyo A/V receiver all the time.
This review may not be entirely useful for someone wanting an 'all round' TV performance, but if at least part of your requirement is Blu-Ray / DVD viewing and gaming capability, I can heartly recommend this set. |
